                Why solar/wind?

Due to the rise in power consumption, transmission rates,

fossil fuels, economic insecurities, foreign relations, and not to

mention the earth, our lives, corporate greed,

and our children's future.

WHY NOT?

A new energy bill has  been signed in 2009 for many extended

and new tax incentives, government loan and state rebates.

Investing in solar/wind is more affordable then ever before. The more

the utility rates go up the more you save. Now we can make

a difference. Solar/wind systems are available for all kinds of

application big and small. All of the systems are expandable

for future needs. From small residential or large residential systems

Leamy Electric Inc can provide and install one that fits your needs.

How On-Grid or Grid-Tied Solar Energy Systems Work

What’s the difference between ON THE GRID and OFF THE GRID solar systems?
On the grid means that your solar system is hooked into the utility company.

Off the grid means you are not connected to the utility company.

It’s more efficient to be hooked to the utility grid because off grid systems must

store the energy, as in batteries. If you are on the grid, the utility company

stores the energy. The utility company keeps track of the kilowatts you use on

an hourly basis. During a sunny day, you can produce more energy than you are

using so your electric meter goes backwards and you build up

renewable energy credits (REC).

The goal of your solar power system on the grid is to produce as much power

over a twelve month period as you use. We feel this is the best system to install

and get more bang for your buck. There are many more rebate programs available

for on grid then off grid.

ON THE GRID DURING A SUNNY DAY

Solar electric systems generate electricity silently and without any moving parts.

Sunlight falls on the solar array and generates DC electricity. That DC electricity

is converted into household 120V AC electricity by the inverter. The AC electricity

is fed into your electric meter and circuit breaker panel. The electricity either goes

to your appliances and lights, or to the grid, or some to each. This happens

silently and automatically every day. This results you not having to have no

maitenence other then a random visual system check on occations

ON THE GRID AT NIGHT OR DURING A CLOUDY DAY

At night and during cloudy weather, the solar system’s output is reduced or

stopped; however, your home then gets electricity from the utility grid. You

are always connected to the grid, so you can have as much power as you need,

any time you need it, regardless of whether the solar system is able to put out

any power. When the solar system does put out power, it reduces your usage

at the time, or, if there is excess, your meter spins backwards, counting down

your electric use and bill. A net meter is used to measure your PV production.

How much will solar power save on your electric bill?

How much you can save depends on your usage and variations in weather.

However, say your monthly electric bill is $132 a month when averaged over a year.

With solar power your bill could average only $15 a month. The reason we don't

reduce it to zero is that most utility companies will charge a minimum payment for

connection to the grid. There is no sense in having a larger solar array that would

bring your overall usage to zero.

This is the best and easiest way to go if you have utility and you want to reduce your

utility use as well as investment in you and your families furture.

Reducing your carbon foot print as well is also very rewarding.

We can offer a small 1000 watt system or 10,000 watt system. An average system is between 2kW and 10kW.

You have nothing to loose but your utility cost.

The systems today are more effiiant and cost effective then they have ever been.

It has taken us a year and a half to gather all this information. We at Leamy Electric

want you to be able to get all your information on one web site. We feel we can be

a one stop shop.

Do not delay-money is going quick

Please remeber that the rebates will be decreasing. Do not wait.

There is only a certian amount of money for all these rebates and it

can take up to 3 months to get the paper work completed.

Something Cool

Homemade wind turbine. Yep, built it myself from scratch.

The blades and the housing are made out of 6"PVC. Has ran in 100MPH winds

Produces about 15 amps DC power at 25-30 MPH winds.

This is just a experiment and test. We do not recommend using PVC blades as they can get brittle

and break. Always use a carbon fiber or aluminum blade. We also recommend a 6 or 9 blade unit.

Two blades work well but a 6 or 9 blades will capture more wind for micro turbines.

Turbines off grid & on grid

Think $imple, think $mall when using micro on/off  grid wind turbines.

Let's talk !!

Great for small independant or partial independent loads

Small independent: 100w to 2000w no utlity at all.Batteries

Partial indendent- Uses the grid as a back up W/ Batteries

Both can be used in the applications creating a hybrid sytem

Lets talk wind. I find it very facinating myself

We offer 12, 24, and 48 volt turbines. They can be mounted on a 1.5"-2" pole

and installed 20 to 40 ft. We can grid tie 24 and 48 volt turbines. Larger turbines as far

as energy production and height can require more township regulations.

Check your local codes. The micro turbines should be combined with  your solar system.

To of set the production of solar in the winter months.Production starts in about

12 MPH winds. Some of these types can be for on grid as well.

The carbon fiber blades are gaurunteed

In the North East we get more wind in the winter and less solar

production so, both systems compensate for each other. In the night time the turbines

can also collect energy. Having a sunny and windy day can bring great results as well.

We deal with many micro turbines to fit your budget. From 200 watt to 1000 watt.

Our 1000w and 500w  turbines are about as easy as it gets as far as componets.

Just coils, windings and bearings. The bearings are rated at 100,000 Hrs. and cost

about $5 to purchase new ones. Some micro turbines come with internal circuit boards

like the Air x or Wind Breeze. They are both good products.

The turbines produce 3 phase A/C so we can run a smaller wire to the

rectifier. The rectifier is mounted near the battery bank or gide tie inverter.

We also have the option of running D/C straight of the turbine as well.

That would be a 30A or 60A amp wire.

Mounting is no problem. We use rigid pipe, cement, and guyed wires with lock rings.

We can even mount up close to your home if your property is small.

We mount them on the side of the home with free standing poles and guyed wires.

Garages, homes, sheds, barns, and commerial bulidings can be roof mounted as well .

          60-120 ft. tall 10kW     30f-60ft. tall  500w to 3000 watts

We offer custom solar sign lighting

Solar sign lighting can be combined with a wind turbine as well. We offer ground and

 pole mountfor the panels.

Hybrid Solar Power Parking Lot Lighting

We can now retrofit parking lot lighting poles with our new system.

The system switches back and forth from solar energy to

the utility when the batteries are getting low. The solar power

is stored in the battery bank and released at nigt time with the smart

controller. Using an LED lighting with a useful life of upto 70,000 hrs and

light quality of 4500K and better the system can cut lighting cost by

up to 70%.

New technology for the wind turbine design. These units are 1kW to 20kw

These units are for and residential and commercial applications. Ample space will be

needed. Pole or commercial roof mounted, they are very efficient and quiet.

They will produce with 12-14 MPH wind speeds. Battery or grid tie.

FYI

When you see the trees blowing hard or your cap is getting blown off,

that is a good gauge of when your turbine is making power. Yes, they do spin at a lower speed

but they start producing around 12-14MPH. Wind turbines work very well if you have wind. The best data is

 by you.

If you are to consider a wind turbine study your applications. If you receive wind about every three days and

over 20MPH

this is a good application. This is also a good application to combine your solar panels with the wind turbine

 grid tie or  off grid.

When the sun goes down you can still make power if the wind is blowing and on a sunny windy day, your savings

are even better with both wind and solar.  Most wind production is after the summer season our area for the wind.

Speaking Words of Truth to YOU

Charts and graphs will give you predictable average savings but, please always remember

mother nature is not always predictable.  These systems will save and teach you how to conserve your energy use.

You will be amazed at how much more energy efficient you will become as an individual.

That my friends is what we all must become. Energy Efficient.

Internal circuit wiring may be rqured, sensor/smart switching, and CFLbulbs are not included. All work is based

on standard walkable shingled roofs. Pole mounts and ground mounts are alos avilable

Prices may vary due to location, roof pitch, ample space, and system modification.

The system production is based on the weather-mother nature.

In the summer months is where you will get full production from the  solar panels.

Permit and inspection are not included if required.

Rember the summer is where you get full solar production, winter allows for about

half production. Sizing-using your sytem to work in the winter will require you to

 double your solar energy production.

The wind turbine is used to supplement with the solar panels in the winter since

there is more wind speed in the winter months . Starting wind speed is about

10-12MPH. Acutual production starts at about 12-14MPH.

See the chart below to see what you can power.

It is mandatory that  the  off grid system is powering low wattage bulbs (CFL). If you do not

have them we can provide them for an extra cost. 9 to 14 watt CFL bulbs are recommended

The batteries produce 12v and that voltage is sent to an inverter to make 120 volt house

voltage. This is a simple off grid system.

This is a great way to invest in alternative energy.

Ground mount is the most user freindly considering snow.

Starting out small is a very affortable investment, energy independent, and less Co2 foot

print as well as doing your part for your future. You can always add to your system.

Please remeber a battery system is more for the savey type. There are more things to

maintain but, they are a very easy way to power smaller loads for free.

We have small insallations for just walkway lighitng, pool lighting, sheds or any small size area.

To cover your whole house you will need an on grid system.

Sheds-Public Self Storage units-Small garages

Take a shed that has no electric to it. We can put up 2 or 3 panels and a battery bank

and you now have power to your shed. Now, you can also add landscape

lighting or walk way lighting where you may not have been able to add before.

The lower you keep your watts the less expensive the system is. We have a landscape

lighting 12v system that  produes 50 watts of lighing per fixture and only use 5 watts of

power per fixture. Every kit or system is different based on how many ligths an how long

you want to run them. 120 volt for your shed. No problem . We install the 12v to 120v

 inverter.

A question people always ask me all the time

"I want to run my whole house off solar/wind." "Can I?"

Yes, that would be a larger off grid or on grid system. You

would not want to install an off grid system. It's just not worth it if

you already have utility. Loads with ranges, hvac, electric baseboard,

pool pumps, electric dryers, and washers just consume to much power

to install  an off grid battery system. Yes, you can buy 12v appliances to

a degree. That woud help but not very common.

That is why we must custom taylor each off grid/on grid system.

This does not qualify for a rebate and would not be code compliant.

It also does not raise the value of your home. Homemade systems

are great for do it yourself projects but if you expect to get the most

out of your systems, please let us handle it.

                                                What a mess

On grid is the way to go for covering your whole home or business

considering there are many more rebates available for grid tie. Off grid

will get you a 30% tax rebate. No state. Batteries to consider.

The batteries will last about 3-5 years. You will have to change them at

some point.

If you are interested in any of our solar and or wind products please let us

know. We can provide you with any installation accordng to your needs.

Considering we understatnd how electric componets work in your

house or business,we are your first choice for any renewable energy system

or product.

Fact:

 Small wattages "off grid"

Large wattages and small wattages "on grid" covers everything

We can:

1. Replace your existing indoor/outdoor fixtures with LED or CFL lighting.

2. Install motion sensors and timers to keep run times down.

3. Install  solar poducts including a hybrid, off grid or an on grid system

Sizing the system for yourself "off grid"

Thes are general calculations only

1:
How much energy can your battery store?

2:
How much energy will your appliance (s) use over a period of time?

3:
How much energy can a Solar panel generate over a period of time?

Battery capacityis measured in Amp Hours (eg 17AH). You need to convert this to Watt Hours by multiplying the AH figure by the battery voltage (eg 12V).

For a 17AH, 12V battery the Watt Hours figure is 17 x 12 = 204WH

This means the battery could supply 204W for 1 hour, or 102W for 2 hours i.e. the more energy you take, the faster the battery discharges.

The power consumption of appliances is given in Watts (eg 21" fluorescent light, 13W). To calculate the energy you will use
over time, just multiply the power consumption by the hours of use.

The 13W light fitting, on for 2 hours, will take 13 x 2 = 26WH from the battery.

Repeat this for all the appliances you wish to use, then add the results to establish total consumption.

The power generation rating of a Solar panel is also given in Watts (eg. 10W). To calculate the energy it can supply to the battery, multiply Watts by the hours exposed to sunshine, then multiply
the result by 0.85 (this factor allows for natural system losses).

For the Solar 10W panel in 4 hours* of sunshine, 10 x 4 x 0.85
= 34WH. This is the amount of energy the Solar panel can supply
to the battery.

Tip:
The bigger the battery, the more energy you can store so you can draw more power for longer.

Tip:
Look for energy-efficient appliances (low power consumption) so the battery lasts longer.

Tip:
Large panels can collect more energy in less time.

Things to think about for all of these products and installations

A small combination solar/wind system is a great way to start

Landscape-Pool-Garages-Sheds-Basements-Signs-Home

  • How much do you want to reduce your electric bill to?
  • The more you reduce, the more the systems cost
  • Consider a hybrid of solar/wind with batteries and utility and build from there
  • Study your area for wind and solar to pick the right system for your budget
  • Mounting area and structure
  • Check with your local township codes
  • Net Meter (Second meter to read the utility cost difference) required for grid tie only.
  • Make sure the structures are sound for installations
  • Homeowners insurance/liability. Always check with your accountant for tax rebates.
  • Installation of CFL bulbs and smart switches like timers and motion sensors.
  • CFL bulbs will keep the cost of the Renewable Energy System lower.
  • Correct switching and bulbs will keep power consumption down.
  • Rewiring of house circuits could apply depending on what you are powering for non grid tie.
  • Understand that all of this technology needs to be maintained to some degree.
  • All our products are top of the line and come with great warranties.
  • Always size your system control for greater potential for more panels and wind turbines.
  • The type of batteries, planning, materials, and controls will dictate the pricing
  • When using a battery system (Hybrid or Off Grid type) it also can be used for utility failure
  • Systems can all work together if you have utility, a back up generator, and solar/wind
  • Inverter size-Over sizing the inverter is a must for expansion
